World Championships 2012 - SemiFinal Review

by Dom is the best, 26-04-2012

The SemiFinals of the 2012 World Championships have come to an end, but who impressed the most, and will be making the Final line-up?

Leading the way into the Final of the 2012 World Championships was League 1 winner Krncdinho, who amassed the highest points total of the round, with 69 - an average of over two points per game! League 2 winner unguru bulan trailed him home in second, with an impressive total of 67 points, whilst League 1 runner-up Drunk-Master recorded qualification with his tally of 65 points. These tallies are reflective of the wins column, too, with all three of the aforementioned managers taking the podium spots there, too. Krncdinho takes yet another personal title by virtue of recording 22 victories, more than two ahead of any other manager. Indeed, 3 managers managed to reach 20 wins, all sharing the second highest record, as unguru bulan and Drunk-Master are joined by 2011 Champion gavrilescu_ovidiu - is lightening about to strike twice? We finally have a new award winner when we look at the fewest defeats, and taking the award, with only 7 losses from 34 games, is League 2's Champion unguru bulan, one ahead of his compatriot and crew-mate Sufana Adrian. 3rd place is shared by 3 managers, with Krncdinho, Drunk-Master and diegocruz23 suffering only 9 defeats through the SemiFinals! Sir Marek Myjchrzak takes the award for the highest number of draws, with 12, over a third of his games, ending in a stalemate! The other podiums spots are shared by danitec and Peter River, who finished with 10 draws apiece. The title for the most attacking team is awarded to diegocruz23, who managed an impressive 91 goals. The other two managers on the podium are two new managers, with a joint award for Smocker and Petter Inge Skjolberg, whose 89 goals each enabled them to both reach the final. At the end of the pitch, it was the League 1 defences who shone the most, with Sufana Adrian conceding only 42 goal, and Krncdinho only 44 goals. A League 1 whitewash was prevented by unguru bulan, who conceded only 48 goals. Unsurprisingly, the podium for the best Goal Difference is made up from the managers just mentioned. With a difference of +43, Krncdinho takes home yet another award from a hugely succesful SemiFinal, beating Sufana Adrian, unguru bulan and diegocruz23 into a share of second, all with a GD of +39.

On a larger scale, we return, unsurprisingly, to the Romanian/Portuguese combination for the majority of the Finalists. Although the Romanians went into the SemiFinals with more managers, it is the Portuguese who have reclaimed their original advantage, and will take 8 managers to the final, compared to Romania's 6. And with 14 of the 18 managers in the final from either of these two countries, you'd be brave/foolish (depending on your point of view!) to bet against the trophy returning to one of these two countries for the fourth consecutive year. The remaining places are filled by a manager apiece from Albania, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain. On the Crew scene, it is the Romanian Pwners who will be toasting their managers this weekend, with 5 of the 6 managers they had in the SemiFinals progressing to the Final. The Portuguese 8 come from 4 crews all contributing 2 managers each, with Alma Lusitana, Fantastic TUGA, Lusos and Revolucao the crews in questions. The remaining managers come from Furia Roja, Kanarifuglene, OFM Greats, The Revolutionists and TITANS, all of whom have a solitary manager to cheer on in the final.

As ever, you can follow the competition, join in the discussion and cheer for your favourite in the official World Championship 2012 topic. Details of the League for the Final will be made available here on Monday.

For now, though, we must all congratulate the 18 managers who have reached the Final, and wish them the best of luck when it kicks off again on Monday!
